Moreland City Council has proposed something wonderful in Saxon Street, but it could be even better. Tell them what you think....

Dear Urban Planning Committee member,

I refer you to the proposed Saxon Lane Activity Centre Upgrade and I write in strong support of this proposal, however I am very keen to see the works extend to Michael Street. Nightingale 3 has paid a hefty development contribution and I believe that it should be used to increase the scope of the Saxon upgrade in the following ways:

1. Extension of scope all the way to Michael Street, including the integration of trees, planting and seating.
2. Change in ground surface from Bitumen to something “pedestrian" (grass pavers would be great).
3. Raised crossover at Michael Street.
4. Removal of street parking on west side of Saxon street.
5. Widening of the footpaths.

Nightingale 3 is not only an exemplar model for housing in the Sydney Road commercial precinct, Nightingale 3 also has the potential to be a shining example of how we can rejuvenate secondary streets like Saxon.

For centuries streets have been the most important public space within our cities. Streets have been the gathering place of community and commerce. This changed with the advent of the car and its dominance over our streets. Saxon street is an incredible opportunity for Moreland. At Saxon Street we have the opportunity to create a street that prioritises pedestrians and locals while still allowing vehicles to access in a safe manner.

I implore Moreland to not miss this opportunity to create an extraordinary public space at Saxon Street.
